- This punishment, with a geometric harshness that worked automatically to punish abuse of power, was the main subject of Greek thought. This is the essence of the epic. Under the name Nemesis, it serves as the main source of Eyskilus' tragedies. For the Pythagoreans, for Socrates and Plato, this was the starting point for thinking about the nature of man and the universe. Wherever we fall under the influence of Hellenism, we find the idea of it familiar. Perhaps it was this Greek idea that lived under the name Karma in Eastern countries embedded in Buddhism. However, the West has lost this concept and no longer has a word to express it in any Western language: the concepts of limit, measure, balance, which must determine the course of life, are merely the definition of slave function in the technical dictionary of the West.
