Black Sabbath Format: Audio CD Rock Editorial Review
** Mob Rules by Black Sabbath** "Mob Rules," the second album featuring the legendary singer Ronnie James Dio with Black Sabbath, has garnered acclaim from long-time fans and new listeners alike. Many reviewers stress the exceptional guitar work by Tony Iommi, who they herald as one of the best lead guitarists in rock history. The remastering of this classic album has been particularly praised, enhancing the sound quality and breathing new life into the songs that fans have cherished for decades. Critics highlight standout tracks such as “E5150,” which has been described as ethereal and one of the best instrumental pieces in rock history, and “The Sign of the Southern Cross,” a song that poignantly captures the darker themes of the album. The album's first half has been noted for its powerful opening with both “The Mob Rules” and “The Sign of the Southern Cross” setting a robust tone. The simplicity and addictive melody of “Country Girl” is commended as a highlight of the second half. While some fans feel the album doesn’t quite reach the heights of its predecessor, "Heaven and Hell,” it is nonetheless seen as a significant offering in Sabbath's catalogue, marking a transition into darker, more experimental territory. The addition of live tracks and the complete 1982 Portland show as part of the deluxe reissue has been lauded, making this collection a must-have for old-school and new fans alike. Overall, "Mob Rules" serves as a testament to Black Sabbath's resilience and adaptability, showcasing that they are far from being one-album wonders, especially with Dio’s dynamic presence in the band. **
